People of Hussars - Marta Dziekanska

The Poznan Hussars are comprised of people who use their talents and skills to strengthen the team’s position in the world of Polish lacrosse. These are mainly the Poznan club’s players, though this isn’t always the case.

You don’t have to play to become a part of the team; it’s enough to be present at all the games and practices with a camera in hand and taking hundreds of photos in order to show the world that in Poznan there’s a sports team different than the rest. Marta Dziekanska showed up at Poznan Hussars’ practice for the first time in March of 2008, barely three months after it was founded. It was then that the first image gallery appeared with lacrosse as the star of the show with her as the author. After four years, the 30-strong team roster holds only five players who have been with the club since then – just five players and Marta.

A sprinter in the past; today she’s a player and the team’s resident photographer but always has been a fan and participant of the Rock Music Festival in Jarocin, Poland. Marta, like the majority of the Hussars’ founders, is a graduate of the Poznan University of Economics with a degree in computer science and econometrics. Aside from photography and lacrosse, her other passion is Spanish language and culture. During her studies, she went on a six-month exchange program to Alicante, Spain. Spanish serves her on a daily basis at her job in an international investment firm.

In December 2009, Marta found herself among the first people who took part in creating the girls squad of Poznan’s lacrosse club – the Poznan Hussars Ladies. She participated in every game and tournament, which her team played in so far. Currently, her responsibilities include recruitment and training new recruits. To assist her in these tasks, she uses her own indestructible car with a trunk that seems to carry tons of lax equipment.

Assessing the effort she put into building the clubs brand image and its popularization is equally difficult as counting the endless number of pictures commemorating almost every game in which the Hussars participated. It’s enough to say that the vast majority of pictures uploaded to our site is her work. The photos have a significant meaning for the team also because, in the early stages, they were the only form of presenting the Hussars to an outside audience. Today, they are an indispensable tool in promoting and spreading the Poznan Hussars brand; however, for us personally above all they have sentimental value. They are and will be forever a source of memories and all those unforgettable and unique moments spent together as a team.
